Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has refreshing words of encouragement for Yaya Toure, as he says the midfielder is important to the club.

Toure had problems with Guardiola when he joined City a year ago, as he was caught between a squabble between his manager and agent.

The veteran midfielder later became an important part of the squad towards the end of the season.

Toure is yet to play for City this season, with the club citing fitness concerns and it seems he remains an important part of the club.

“We need him,” Guardiola told reporters at his pre-match media conference. “I need him, the team needs him.

“He was so important last season. I admire him for what he has done in his career.

“He is an exceptional player. Of course he is going to helps us. We will see [about his squad inclusion].”
