Chike Ukaegbu: Presidential aspirant joins new party, Advanced Alliance Party

Chike Ukaegbu joins new party, AAP, to run for President

The party is one of the political parties that were registered by INEC two weeks ago.

Presidential aspirant, Chike Ukaegbu, has joined the  Advanced Alliance Party (AAP) to contest in the 2019 presidential election.

The Owerri-born US-based technology entrepreneur disclosed this during an interview with Pulse on Thursday, August 23, 2018, noting that the party aligns with his vision for Nigeria.

AAP is one of the political parties that were recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), bringing the total of parties to 91.

35-year-old Ukaegbu told Pulse that the party is committed to taking care of all Nigerians and is poised to emerge victorious at next year's polls.

He said, "Two days ago, after several months of talking to different parties and trying to make sure my ideology and the vision of our movement aligns with any party I align with, we decided to go with one - Advanced Alliance Party (AAP).

"People ask why and I'll tell you. So the leadership - for one, their symbol is a golden spoon and our very first solution is to feed the people and for them the spoon is symbolic (for) access to food for anyone - for the rich, for the poor, for the old, for the young, for male, for female. We all have to eat.

"For me, more importantly, they share the same ideologies that I share and their leadership was comprised of different organisations that are important for us to be successful. So, we bring a lot to the table - we bring the vision, the ideology, the technology and all of that, but we needed the party that has structure, that can help us get into all 36 states.

"It was important for us to make sure that this was not just playtime but whosoever we're aligning with was the one who had the capacity to get the message across but also the machine to drive the votes out. AAP did that for us.

"Two, AAP embraced the importance of youth leadership, so to run for office in the party, candidates between the ages of 25 to 35 don't get to pay for the forms to encourage more young people to run for office."

AAP has more structure than PDP, APC

Ukaegbu also boasted about the new party's structure which he claimed has more ambassadors than Nigeria's biggest parties, the All Progressives' Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, "The people who came together to form this party are the leadership of the National Youth Council, several civil societies, several trade unions, several women organisations and a very famous big organisation that I cannot mention the name for now.

"That actually gives us a base of between 3,000 and 11,000 in each state which means, membership-wise, between 200,000 and 300,000 (people) starting off.

"That's 200,000 and 300,000 ambassadors you have who are going out to campaign. There's no party, not even your PDP or APC, that has that structure right now."

Alongside 22 other new parties, AAP was issued a Certificate of Registration on August 16, 2018, and, according to Ukaegbu, will officially launch "in a couple of weeks".
