The University of Ilorin is reportedly the most preferred institution for admission seekers in Nigeria.
The University of Ilorin has reportedly begun the post UTME screening of over 39,000 candidates for the 2018/19 admission process.
Mr Kunle Akogun, the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, announced this on Monday, August 27, 2018, in a statement in Ilorin.
Akogun said the exercise would involve 29,562 at the Ilorin Centre while 10,149 would appear at the Lagos Centre.
The University spokesperson also said that the screening will hold simultaneously at Ilorin and Lagos centres between Monday and Thursday, adding that candidates who might have some issues during the main exercise would have another chance on Friday.
“A further breakdown of the figure shows that 32, 272 candidates are seeking admission through the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), while the remaining 7, 439 candidates are seeking admission through the Direct Entry (DE) window,” he said.
According to Akogun, about 86,401 candidates made the University of Ilorin their first choice institution.
He said that UNILORIN has emerged as the most preferred University for the fifth consecutive year followed by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with 74,635 candidates.
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) according to the statistics released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board have 70,322 and 66,486 candidates respectively.

Other institution included University of Lagos (UNILAG) – 62,436; Bayero University Kano (BUK) – 56,261; Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) – 48,646; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) – 48,554; the University of Ibadan (UI) – 47,544; and the University of Jos (UNIJOS) – 46,082.
UNILORIN is the most subscribed university in Nigeria
In 2017, the University of Ilorin for the fourth consecutive year maintained its status as the most subscribed university by admission seekers from 2014 to 2017.
Prof. Musa Yusuf, the Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology Centre (COMSIT), of the University, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday.
He said that more than 104,000 candidates picked the University as their preferred institution
