Report Claims Trump Never Wants To Meet Someone As Lifeless As Buhari
A report has emerged online that the United States President Donald Trump referred to his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari as “lifeless” shortly after a meeting between the two leaders on April 30.
The world’s leading global business publication, Financial Times is reporting on Monday, that Trump told his aides that he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless as Buhari again.
In April, Buhari’s meeting with his counterpart was celebrated by the presidency and supporters alike.
At a press briefing after the bilateral meeting, Trump said he would love to visit Nigeria which he described as one of the most beautiful places on earth.
“Nigeria has a reputation for very massive corruption. I also know that the president has been able to cut that down very substantially,” Trump had said.
“We talked about that, he is working on it and they have made a lot of progress and I think they will continue to make a lot of progress.”
Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, had said the visit to US was an endorsement of the current administration by the American government.
“No matter how Nigerians take our own country, this is hugely an important country and this recognition is being manifested in this visit,” he had said.

However, The Financial Times, in its latest article, claimed that the meeting ended with Trump warning his aides that he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again.
“The first meeting, with Nigeria’s ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April, ended with the US president telling aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter,” the newspaper claimed.
Similarly, on Monday, Aly-Khan Satchu, Kenyan-born CEO of Rich Management, tweeted the excerpt from the article on Twitter.
