Sowore: Presidential aspirant challenges Buhari to public debate, says APC's arrogance will lead to politicial suicide

APC's arrogance will lead to politicial suicide - Sowore

He said President Buhari is hiding from debating other aspirants because he has no achievements or policies.

Presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to a public debate ahead of the 2019 presidential election as he warned the ruling All Progressives' Congress (APC) of mistaking arrogance for confidence.

While speaking during an interview on Channels TV on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, the publsher of online media organisation, Sahara Reporters, said President Buhari is hiding from debating other aspirants because he has no achievements or policies to talk about.

He said, "If you want to be more serious, maybe you should start bringing these presidential candidates to debate us. Buhari should be brought out. The media should force them out of hiding. Let them come and debate."

He further described the APC's confidence that it'll emerge victorious at next year's polls as arrogance that'll lead to the end of the party in Nigeria. He said the party has failed to convince Nigerians that they can provide any lasting solutions to the country's problems and that this will lead to the party's downfall.

He said, "They're confident in a wrong way. It's not confidence, it's arrogance. The same kind of arrogance that the PDP had prior to the 2015 election and the rest, as we say today, is history. APC is towing the same path. They're confident because of what they did in Ekiti and got away with it but they should not forget that the PDP did the same thing in Ekiti in 2014 and thought they got away with it but lost the general election in 2015.

"There's no reason they should be confident. Their performance across board has been terrible; they haven't done anything to deserve re-election. In fact, they've not done anything to deserve remaining as a political party in Nigeria.

"The party has been a disaster, their programmes have not been implemented, they came and said they want to protect the country through security but the story, you know, as it is unfolding in Borno today, and also with Fulani herdsmen, we just had more openings in the arena of security challenges in the country. You also have had issues of poverty in the land.

"This government is going down, there is no question about it, and they know they are going down. This is some kind of false confidence that they project onto the public because they have disempowered the Nigerian people to the extent that they think if they distribute N5,000 again in the next general election, they will be able to convince and win the election.

"They will be shocked. This is not confidence, it is arrogance, it's cockiness and it is going to lead to political suicide."

APC good at propaganda

Sowore further noted that despite the APC's best attempts to spread propaganda about Buhari's administration, he has made Nigeria the poverty capital of the world and failed to defeat terrorist group, Boko Haram, as promised.

He said, "I know the APC people are very good at propaganda, that is why we call them the 'All Propaganda Congress'. They like to lie but they have been able to lie for three years (but) they cannot lie themselves out of the next impending defeat that will happen to the party."

Sowore will stand against President Buhari at next year's polls on the platform of the newly-registered political party, the African Action Congress (AAC).
