NANS to protest over ongoing strike as ASUU and FG set to talk

The rally according to NANS president is to commemorate the International Students Day.

In commemoration of the International Students Day, the National Association of Nigerian Student, NANS is planning to protest against ‘’poor funding of education and government policies’’

The rally tagged ‘’Save education, Save the future’’ will take place on Monday, November 19, 2018 at all state capitals.

According to the National President of the association, Comrade Bamidele Danielson Akpan, the rally is a follow up to the seven-day ultimatum NANS issued to the Federal Government over ASUU strike.

In a telephone interview with Pulse on Wednesday, November 4, 2018, the President of the students' body, Bamidele said government's failure to meet the previous agreement between them and ASUU prompted the union to go on strike again.

He however said NANS has given the government a seven-day ultimatum to take a proper action on the issue.

Meanwhie, the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have agreed to resume talks next week to resolve the ongoing strike by university teachers.

Dr Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, told newsmen at the end of a closed-door meeting with the union in Abuja on Thursday that the talks had been fruitful.
