This is the first time such felicitation would be extended to an African club.
The President of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino has facilitated with players and coaching crew of Plateau United FC for winning the Nigerian Professional Football league (NPFL) 2016/2017 season.
In a letter sent to the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, the global football body expresses its congratulatory message to the Jos-based club for winning its first ever league title in 42 years of existence.
"Plateau United are the 2017 champions of Nigeria. It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest congratulations to Plateau United for their first-ever championship title!” FIFA says in the letter.
"This title is the result of the determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the administration, the entire technical and medical staff as well as the fans for this great achievement.”
"On behalf of the entire football community, I would like to thank Plateau United and your association for helping to spread the positive message of football. I remain at your disposal and look forward to meeting you soon."
The Jos-based club defeated Enugu Rangers (last season's champions) 2-0 to win the league in front of their ecstatic home fans on September 9, 2017.
